I’m currently with Moneris for all my merchant services and have been for the past 7 years. I starting to find that many of the rates that they had quoted me in the past are steadily increasing and they are beginning to be far too expensive for the services they offer me. I still have a year left on my contract unfortunately and have found another merchant provider with far better rates. Is there any way that I can get out of it?

I run a small seasonal business maintaining and repairing skiing equipment. I had noticed that a lot of my customers are requesting to pay by debit. I have one of those old manual imprinters to take credit card transactions that I had gotten through my bank. But, I’m starting to realize that taking debit is the next major step I must take. Are there merchant accounts that cater to seasonal businesses with a reduced rate or even a hold on the account for the months we do no business? I don’t want to be stuck with a monthly bill when no money is coming in.
